PETA rides on Twilight

Apparently Bella isn't the only one getting some piggybacking action in Twilight. Animal activist group PETA got a lot of forum space in fansites and blogs last week when it gave Twilight the Libby Award for “Most Animal-Friendly Movie.” I googled for an official explanation how a movie about vampires eating anmials in lieu of humans could be considered animal-friendly--I found none.

I'm sure PETA's spin people are aware that the irony of the award has boggled the Twilight world, but not a word is heard from their side. Probably they're thinking that the less they say about it, the more people will speculate, translating to more publicity. And it looks like it doesn't matter to them what kind of publicity they're getting. Good or bad, publicity is still publicity after all. Here are some theories being thrown around:

1. PETA didn't get the Cullens' "vegetarian vampire" joke.
2. They came in late and didn't see the opening shot where Edward feasted on Bambi.
3. They fell asleep before Edward could tell Bella about his special diet.
4. No animals were harmed in making the movie.
5. Victoria wore faux fur (I wonder how they could tell).
6. Bella ordered mushroom ravioli at La Bella Italia.

What's your theory?
